Inside your Guinness NITROSURGE box you will find your device, the specially designed nozzle to attach, a USB charging cable (will fit a standard USB plug – not supplied) and a cleaning brush for the nozzle. There are also full instructions for use and details on surrounding the 1-year warranty.
The Guinness NITROSURGE device uses 2 NiMH AAA rechargeable batteries. The device is supplied with a Micro-USB/USB-A charging cable which can be used with a 5V DC adaptor (not supplied).
When plugged into a power socket, you’ll know the device is fully charged when the harp icon changes from a flashing white light to a solid white light.
Recharge your device by plugging it into a power socket using the supplied USB charging cable.
Watch this quick guide to charging your Guinness NITROSURGE device.
Low battery is indicated by a white to red flashing light.
A full charge takes about 8 hours and you should get around 100 uses per charge.
Guinness NITROSURGE cans will fill a standard pint glass, but you can use them with any glass for a beautiful Guinness. To allow for the different temperatures of domestic fridges, there may be between 5-10ml surplus left after your pour in each NITROSURGE can to ensure you always have a full domed pint. Make sure your glass is clean, handwashing is best. See tips for glass cleaning.
We strongly recommend handwashing your glasses on their own in clean, hot water. Dishwashers are great for keeping the dirty dishes in check, but they struggle to get glasses absolutely clean because the fats and food deposits in the water cling to the glass. This is why industrial cleaners use separate washers for glasses versus anything that has come in contact with food products.
When your Guinness NITROSURGE device needs charging the halo surrounding the harp icon will begin to flash between white and red. At this point, you will have about five more uses before it requires charging.
Your device will come with charge, so you can use it straight from the box.
It's not recommended to use Guinness NITROSURGE while it is charging. A 10-minute charge should let you pour 2-3 Guinness NITROSURGE cans.
The widget inside a can of Guinness Draught does the job of breaking out the gas within the beer. If you use the Guinness NITROSURGE device in conjunction with one of these cans you will break out too much gas and get a very thin Guinness at the end. It is unlikely to have a creamy head and you'll find the flavour isn't as deep as you know it.
Guinness NITROSURGE has been explicitly designed for Guinness NITROSURGE cans and should not be used with other drinks.
The device has been ultrasonically sealed to make it waterproof – provided the USB charging port is covered with the rubber seal on the back. That said, we still don’t advise to completely submerge the device in water or use in a dishwasher.
The key to achieving fantastic lacing (where the creamy head of your Guinness remains throughout and coats the inside of the glass) is clean glassware. It’s important to only use a very clean glass, see tips for glass cleaning section above.
To make sure that everyone has a great experience and a full pint glass of Guinness with a beautiful domed head, there is about 5-10ml surplus in the can. So, when you are topping up your pint, stop pouring as the dome forms, rather than empty the can. This allows for the different temperatures of domestic fridges. If the fridge is very cold, the head will be slightly thinner, leaving less in the can. If the fridge is warmer, the head will be slighty larger, leaving more in the can.
Make sure to rinse the unit and nozzle under the tap before and after use, especially when new, to prevent this issue.
To eliminate bubbles when topping up, try to tip the can almost vertical quickly to fill the NITROSURGE chamber as fast as possible. There is no need to press the power button again for the top up.
Guinness NITROSURGE cans can be recycled with your household recycling. The NITROSURGE device contains a built-in rechargeable battery that should not be disposed of in your normal household waste. Follow your country’s rules for the separate collection of electronic products and rechargeable batteries.
